White America, we need to have a conversation.
Ahmaud’s murder is evil and cruel. No doubt about it. The video proves it. And to be honest, the evidence beforehand did too. But this “clean cut” case is so easy for many white people to rally behind…it brings up a bigger discussion.
Why in times where the deaths of black people are deemed “questionable” is there not widespread outrage?
The video is the only difference between Trayvon Martin (2012) and Ahmaud Arbery’s murder (2020). We learned from Trayvon’s trial that an arrest does not mean much because George Zimmerman was acquitted for murdering Trayvon.
White America, where was your outrage for Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Atatiana Jefferson, Eric Garner, Freddie Gray, Philando Castile, and now Sean Reed?
They deserve the same outrage because no one should be executed by the police instead of getting due process.
Does their “presumed guilt” really give the police the authority to execute them?
Our blackness is a weapon. We are guilty before trial simply because of the color of our skin. I’m not anti-police but I am pro-police accountability. Police officers must be held accountable for killing unarmed black citizens.
Ahmaud’s case is the PERFECT case to speak out about. But what hinders you from speaking up when you don’t have “all the facts”?
Ask yourself, why aren’t you speaking up when the case isn’t as “neat” and pretty? Why aren’t you speaking up for black lives when you see this evil persist generation after generation?
May you never be comfortable with silence again because your silence is killing us.
