As an American, who has an eastern background and has strong Christian beliefs, I often find myself caught between two worlds. On one hand, I am part of the religious community, which values tradition and holds certain beliefs that are important to me. On the other hand, I am also a liberal, and I believe in social justice and equality for all people.
This might be a lonely experience, as it could be difficult to find others who share both of these identities. Many of the religious communities I have been a part of have not always been welcoming or inclusive of progressive beliefs, and on the flip side, progressive communities may not always understand or appreciate the importance of my faith.
It can be hard to find a place where I feel fully accepted and understood as a progressive American Christian with eastern roots. It is a constant struggle to balance my values and beliefs with those of the communities I am a part of.
However, I have found solace in knowing that I am not alone in this struggle. There are others out there who share my identities and experiences, and by coming together, we can support and uplift each other. It is important for us to create safe and welcoming spaces for modern Asian Catholics in the US, where we can share our experiences and find strength in our commonalities.
